What our Veolia employees have to say

Hear what Veolia Environmental Services' employees had to say about their partnership with Mind...

Fundraising for Mind

I was really pleased to hear that Mind was picked as our charity of the year. I organised a ‘wear your pyjama’s to netball’ session which was really fun to take part in (although at some points very embarrassing).

After the success of this event I went on to organise a local charity evening, which involved a live singer, food and a cash raffle. The evening was a huge hit, and I would highly recommend getting involved in this type of fundraising. Not only did we raise money for a fantastic cause, but we also got to enjoy a great night. In total I raised £922.

Mind is a charity that is very close to my heart in more ways than one as I have a very close family member who has bipolar disorder.

As soon as I was set the fundraising challenge I focused on the end result and what I was raising the money for.  I imagined what the money would do and who it would help and thought of these things when the going got tough!

I organised a charity gig, for World Mental Health Day we held cake stalls and over Christmas we had our site operatives at our Veolia Hove Household Waste Recycling Site dressed as Santa’s singing reworded Christmas recycling carols – this made local television!

It was an absolute pleasure fundraising for Mind I found the whole experience enjoyable and rewarding; and I look forward to continuing to raise awareness and funding for the charity.

Volunteering for Mind

DSC 3485

A team of us joined the Eco-minds project Beat in Haworth, Yorkshire where, with other volunteers, we planted 600 saplings and a hawthorn hedgerow on an exposed hillside.

‘Beat’ a Bradford Environmental group works with a wide range of people and promotes the benefits of fresh air and exercise for those with a range of personal challenges.  We had a great day with Ian our host in the fresh air, with volunteers from as far a field as Turkey and France.

I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Marion, the assistant manager and her volunteer assistant showed great enthusiasm and were most helpful in explaining all that goes on in the very busy environment. All too often, the roles played by staff and charities in general are overlooked in regards to the exceptional work and assistance they provide to less fortunate people. Having witnessed the effort and commitment I saw, I for one from here on will give this a great deal more thought. May I thank you for organising this, I would be happy to assist if in future.

It was a very successful day for all parties. The staff at the centre were more than welcoming by making us feel at home and seemed genuinely happy for us to be there. I think I speak for all of the volunteers when I say that it was a very rewarding and interesting experience. I will recommend it to others who may be looking to volunteer and we are definitely considering returning.
