Frequently asked questions

What kind of support will I get?

When we receive your form, we will send you a full support pack with loads of tips and advice on fundraising and training. In the run up to the event, we will also send you useful information about the run, plus motivational emails and calls. In addition, an experienced team member is always on hand to answer any questions you may have.

What help do I get in raising the sponsorship?

Lots! In your welcome pack, you'll find loads of ideas on how to raise money from approaching radio stations to pub quizzes and booksales.

A top tip from past Mind runners is to set up your own web page on www.justgiving.com/mind/raisemoney. Very quick and easy to do - then simply email it to all your mates and potential sponsors, and they can donate online!

When should I start training for the run?

As soon as you can! Try and get out and about about two or three times a week. Take a look at the Fitness Zone 'count down' for training schedules specific to your race.

I have an injury and now I can't run in the race I was signed up for. What shall I do?

Call us straight away! We may be able to reallocate your place to someone else who wants to run. If you still fancy running for us at some point when your injury has healed, we can usually transfer you onto another race, if you tell us soon enough.

I'm not usually a very sporty person. Should I be entering a running event?

Yes! People of all different levels of fitness run for Mind. Why not use the run to improve your fitness levels?

What type of people run for Mind?

People of all ages and backgrounds run in our events and for all different reasons. Join the Mind running team today!

Once I've signed up for a run, when will I hear from you next?

Shortly after we receive your registration form, we will send you out a welcome pack. This is full of training support and fundraising ideas as well as key information on the race itself. It will also include your personalised paying in book which you should use to pay in any sponsorship money.

The Events Team will be on hand should you need any extra help with fundraising or if you have any further questions.

About three weeks before the race, you will receive your final race pack. This will include further details about the race itself and last minute tips and support. Your Mind running vest or T-shirt will also be in this pack - please let us know your size if you haven't already so.

When will I get my offical running number and race day information?

Although this varies from race to race, most organisers will send your running number and raceday magazine in the month before the race. If you have not received this a week before, please do give us a call and we'll try and chase the organisers for you.

I have a interesting story tell about why I'm running for Mind. What shall I do?

People run for Mind for many different reasons. If you have an interesting story or some fundraising or training tips to share we'd love to hear from you. Likewise, if you have any photos or news, please send them in and we might put them up on our News page for all to see!

What shall I do about travel and accommodation for the event?

We advise all our runners to book their accomodation and travel to the race as soon as possible. For the more popular races such as the Great north run, places fill up really fast.

I've just done a running event for you and I want to do another one- what shall I do?

We would love you to run for us again. So many of our previous runners get the 'running bug' and sign up for another straight after they've finished thair last race! People tend to start with one of the shorter distances and work their way up. We have a huge and varied running calendar for 2005 so fill out a form today!

What other events could I do to raise money for Mind?

We have a new exciting calendar of overseas events for you to choose from, from cycling in Cuba to trekking in India on camels! You could also do a parahchute jump for us or organise your own event in aid of us for 'Do your own thing'. Check out the rest of the events website today!

How shall I pay in my sponsorship money?

On registration, you will be sent a personalised paying in book. All you need to do is take your book to any NatWest branch with your sponsorship money and it will come straight to us!

If you receive any CAF vouchers, please send it to us, not forgetting to put your name on the back. Also, please send in your completed sponsorship forms back to us after. We can then claim back Gift Aid from the government, which is 29 pence for every pound you raise!

Will Mind be there on the race day itself?

Mind often has a support squad on the race day itself to cheer you on when you most need it, plus (for the larger events) we have a Mind marquee - with free drinks and snacks after the race.
