12 ways of giving this Christmas
Help Mind make sure no one has to feel alone this Christmas by organising your own fundraising event
This Christmas 1 in 4 of us will experience mental health problems. Christmas can make people feel even more isolated and hopeless.
This is our alternative 12 days of Christmas… it’s all about giving instead of receiving. We hope these 12 festive fundraising ideas inspire you to raise money for Mind and help let someone know they are not alone.
At home or on your own
- The Advent challenge - donate £1 to Mind throughout Advent. By Christmas Eve you will be able to give Mind a £24 donation or more if you ask other people to join you in the Advent challenge.
- Cardless Christmas - instead of sending Christmas cards, donate the money that you would have spent to Mind.
- Fundraising wrapped up - offer to wrap your friends’ presents in exchange for a donation.
- Sponsored New Year’s resolution - by asking people to sponsor you to keep your New Year’s resolution, this year you will be committed to seeing it through.
At work, school or with friends
- Not-so-secret Santa - instead of creating a Secret Santa with your friends or work colleagues, donate the money that you would have spent to Mind.
- Guess the weight of the Christmas cake - ask family, friends, and work colleagues to give a donation to Mind in return for the chance to guess the weight of the cake.
- Dodgy Christmas Jumper Day - instead of a dress down day at work or school, hold a ‘Dodgy Christmas Jumper Day’ where tacky jumpers are a must.
- Quizmas time - hold a Christmas-themed quiz at your work, school or local pub.
Christmas events
- Mulled wine and mince pie evening - host an evening (or coffee morning) where guests are encouraged to give a Christmas donation to Mind.
- Carol singing - carol singing is fun, but remember if you’re holding this event on private land, such as in a shop, you will need the owner’s permission. If you’re carol singing in a public place contact the local authority first. Why not approach your local school or church and ask if they will let you hold a collection for Mind at the end of their carol service or nativity?
- Christmas craft fair - set up a stall in a local Christmas craft fair and sell cupcakes, handmade cards or even home-made jewellery.
- Christmas party - raise money through dance and karaoke competitions, with prizes for the best fancy dress. Hold a raffle and ask for donations to kiss under the mistletoe!
