Mental health first aid

One in four people will experience some form of mental health problem in any one year.

Just as first aid is the help given to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained, mental health first aid can be provided to a person developing a mental health problem before professional treatment can be given.

Mind offers training in mental health first aid in Wales, and is now pleased to unveil a series of course dates in England. Training in mental health first aid can teach people to:

  • preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others
  • provide help to prevent a mental health problem from developing into a more serious state
  • raise awareness of mental health issues in the community
  • promote the recovery of good mental health
  • provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem
  • reduce stigma and discrimination.
