Another assault - tell us your story
Mind has been awarded a grant by the Law Society for us to develop a mental health toolkit to help prosecutors make better decisions about how to handle cases where the victim or witness has a mental health problem.
Too often, victims don’t get a fair trial, due to stigma that people with mental health problems are unreliable witnesses, a lack of support to enable them to give their best evidence, or misuse of psychiatric evidence to try and discredit their testimony.
Sometimes cases don’t even reach court, because prosecutors have concerns a victim with mental distress may be unable to give reliable evidence or withstand the court process.
We need your stories to help us ensure that our toolkit for prosecutors addresses the right issues. Your experiences may be used as scenarios or case studies to illustrate the barriers to justice and how prosecutors can overcome them.
