Layla's story

In March I started a new job and had to complete a health questionnaire. I informed them that I was still taking medication for panic disorder but that I had not had any breaks in previous employment and that it had not hindered my past working performance.

The panic disorder which arose due to a traumatic childhood event and I have not suffered any serious symptoms for over one year.

My start date was delayed in order for me to meet with Occupational Health. I was then contacted by my new manager who asked for an explanation of the hold up. I stressed that any information given should remain confidential. On starting work I have discovered that this manager had informed the team leaders of my condition.

I do feel that I am now treated differently and they expect me to react differently to stressful situations. I am fully competent however I unfortunately feel that I am viewed in a very different way because of their knowledge, or rather lack of, of my condition.
