Take action

Mind is concerned about the condition of our mental healthcare environments. The environments in which we spend time in to improve our health should have a positive effect on our mental wellbeing. However, Mind's report Improving mental health environments (available online in non-printable pdf format) revealed that many healthcare environments have the opposite effect.

You can help change this by doing one or more of the following:

  • Write to the head of your hospital and/or Primary Care Trust (PCT) in England or Local Health Board (LHB) in Wales asking them how they meet Mind's 'Building solutions' recommendations for mental health care environments. Find contact details for your hospital and PCT
  • Write to your MP or Assembly Member (AM). Ask them about what local services are doing to meet Mind's 'Building solutions' recommendations for mental healthcare environments.
  • Visit your MP or AM to discuss the campaign and your concerns.
  • Invite your MP or AM to visit projects that you are involved in that are improving facilities for service users.
  • See what improvements your local user group could make to mental health daycentre or hospital provision.
  • Is your local group or hospital engaged in an innovative project with inpatients? As part of the 'Building solutions' campaign Mind is promoting examples of good practice within mental healthcare facilities that can be replicated in other areas. Contact the Campaigns team with your examples.
  • Develop your campaigning skills. Download Mind's free campaign skills guides.
