Frequently asked questions about copyright

(a) Can I print booklets from Mind's website?
Individuals may print a single copy of the text version of any Mind information booklet from Mind's website www.mind.org.uk for their own personal use. It is also fine for organisations to refer individuals to the booklets on Mind's website.

However, organisations may not print off copies for distribution to clients.
(The only exceptions to this are translated versions of booklets - see point (g) below.)

Any organisation wishing to distribute Mind's publications to clients must purchase copies from Mind Publications, or contact Mind's Sales and Marketing Manager, Helen Finch (contact details below), to explore other options. The reason for this policy is that Mind's Information service is funded largely by sales of the publications we produce, and without this income we would not be able to continue this work.

(b) Can I photocopy Mind's booklets?
Photocopying of Mind's booklets is not permitted.

However, if in exceptional circumstances any organisation wishes to photocopy Mind's publications they should contact Helen Finch or Maria Jacovides (contact details below), who will consider whether an exception can be made, or explore whether a priority order could be processed for the organisation.

(c) Can I print and photocopy factsheets from Mind's website?
Both individuals and organisations are welcome to print and photocopy any complete factsheet from the 'Information' section of Mind's website. Organisations are free to distribute them to service users and colleagues, but must ensure they always use the latest version of the factsheet, as on the website, at the time of distribution, and ensure that Mind's authorship is acknowledged.

(d) Can I reproduce articles from Openmind magazine?
If you want to use articles from Openmind for any purpose, for example in your own publications, or on a website, you must seek permission from Johnny Bird, Publications Administrator (contact details below). A fee may be charged.

(e) Can I display cover images from Mind's publications on webpages, or in any other publishable format?
Mind is generally happy for organisations to display cover images, but any organisation wishing to do this should seek permission from Helen Finch or Maria Jacovides before uploading or printing the images.

Where cover images are displayed we would expect a referral to Mind's Publications service or website.

(f) Can we link to publications on Mind's website from our website?
This is usually fine, but anyone wishing to link to the booklets on Mind's website should contact Mind's Web team (contact details below), for guidelines.

(g) Can we print off copies of the translated booklets that are available online?
The translated versions of Mind's booklets that are available online can be freely printed by both individuals and organisations.

Details of publications that are currently available in translation can be found at www.mind.org.uk/Information/BT.htm

(h) Can we translate Mind's publications into other languages?
Any requests for permission to translate booklets should be referred to Maria Jacovides.

(i) Can I use text from Mind's publications?
Anyone wishing to use text from any of Mind's publications, including Openmind magazine, should contact Johnny Bird, Publications Administrator, to discuss terms. A fee is usually charged for reuse of text from Mind's publications.
