The Lighthouse
Perspex to be fitted inside of an existing glass window
I am a member of 3Cs drop in centre run by Abergavenny Mind association. The centre is in an old chapel and has a large arched window on the back wall. It has plain glass in it and is an obvious candidate for redesign. The sun shines through this window during the summer. My design has uplifting colours, which will brighten up the centre. It will act as a positive focus for members in the way a traditional church window does. The bright sunlight that streams through will be filtered through warm colours and the motif of a lighthouse will reassure members as it represents a place of safety. The design is linked to a new lighthouse motif to be painted on the outside door of the drop-in.

May Blossom
Acrylic painting on canvas, size 30cm by 40cm
My painting is for the entrance passageway of Redcar and Cleveland Mind's East Cleveland Day Service in Saltburn. To brighten this passageway up, I thought that a painting of a local scene would be ideal. I looked through my photographs and came across one of some May blossom on the edge of some woodland in Saltburn. Every spring the colourful pink flowers of these trees brighten this area of Saltburn up, so I thought they would do the same for this passageway and also remind people of the spring ahead during the dull days of winter.
