Background

Rural Minds is Mind's rural health initiative working across England and Wales.

Our aims

• to promote better mental health for country people, developing innovative support and care networks.
• to provide information and training for volunteers and professionals, working in rural communities.
• to influence purchasing decisions to provide accessible rural mental health services.

Our work

• organising a programme of conferences, meetings and training events.
• developing the Rural Minds Network of stakeholder organisations and individuals.
• maintaining a database of rural mental health projects.
• national campaigning for better rural mental health services.
• partnership working with other rural and mental health agencies

Projects to date

• Rural Minds' response to the 2001 Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak.
• Connecting Minds: a project using teleconferencing to provide support to people in rural areas.
• The Rural Policy Toolkit: a collection of case studies and practical advice to help statutory and voluntary sector service providers implement Mind's Rural Policy for Mental Health.
• Rural Proofing the National Service Framework for Mental Health.
