Local Mind Support Team
Mind is a federal organisation with over 200 independent charities affiliating to the umbrella association. Each of these local groups is unique, offering a range of services from campaigning and advocacy through to supported housing. The LMA Support Team exists to provide more focused support to local Mind associations (LMAs) in providing quality services to the public.
The team is part of Mind's Network Support department which also includes Rural Minds, Mind Link, Healthcare Commission project and Mind's Grants unit and we worked closely with these teams.

LMA Support Team mission statement
LMA Support
The aim of the team is to provide LMAs with help and guidance on key organisational matters, such as ensuring an effective structure, and on providing the highest quality mental health support services. The foundation for much of this work lies in the implementation of 'Quality Management in Mind', the quality system which was designed specifically for the diversity of all local Mind associations.
There are 10 LMA Support and Liaison Workers based throughout England. In addition there are two LMA Support Managers, two administrators and the Director who is based at Granta House. We also work closely with the LMA Support team in Wales within Mind Cymru.
LMA Support Workers provide individualised support to LMAs and facilitate networking and learning between LMAs. We also seek to set up peer support and mentoring for LMA workers, and focused training opportunities.

Local Mind Support mission statement
The Local Mind Support Team works with local Mind associations (LMAs) to enable them to strengthen their organisations and improve the quality of services and activities they offer to people with experience of mental distress.
We do this by:
- supporting LMAs to implement Mind's quality system and delivering a capacity building programme for them
- using a range of training and development tools and interventions, responsive to the differing needs of individual LMAs
- establishing clear communication systems which facilitate networking, learning and the sharing of ideas and good practice.
Our approach is to:
- have a clear vision of quality and excellence in Mind, which is underpinned by our values of autonomy, equality, knowledge, participation and respect
- seek to lead and inspire by example and ensure that our practices are of the highest quality
- have clear aims, objectives and outcomes, which are evaluated and monitored
- have a developmental, collaborative and flexible style of working which respects LMAs' autonomy, diversity and individuality
- be positive, purposeful, forward thinking and transparent
- positively challenge discrimination.
